ECO24 temporary cover

Best of 2024 anthology inclusion

A short story I have written will be republished in ECO24: The Year’s Best Speculative Ecofiction by Apex Books and Violet Lichen.

I’m utterly stoked! It’s funny how publishing news is like buses – you wait for ages then three come along at once. I couldn’t have planned it this way, but I’ve had a lot of good fortune lately. It’s news like this that helps you stave off the long periods in between where nothing happens. Long, long periods.

Scottish climate fiction with hope

Meera is a refugee in a new country that is constantly raining, undertaking a dangerous job for her new boss. But things could have been worse. Much, much worse.

This is a reprint, and I’m very glad it’s had another lease on life as it is one of my favourite stories I’ve ever written. You know, the kind when the stars align and suddenly you have a whole world appear at your finger tips? That kind. A story you fall in love with. And one I want to stir people’s hearts and minds about our shared future and what it might look like, if we care enough.

“Love, Scotland” is a near-future climate fiction story about solidarity and community, avoiding disasters, and mushrooms!

What is ECO24?

This is the inaugural anthology from Apex Books / Violet Lichen. The series aims to collect speculative stories that centre on ecofiction and our connection to the planet we’re all tethered to. A shortlist and then finalist list was announced and now the table of contents has been listed, as you’ll see below.

When will the anthology be out?

Publication dates will be announced in due time. You can keep up to date by following Apex on BlueSky or clicking the embedded link card for Violet Lichen below.
