News roundup May 2026

Publishing news is a lot of waiting around, but like buses, sometimes many arrive at once. (Of course, it doesn’t help I hardly ever update my blog.) Either way, a lot of happy things inbound.

These Broken Little Worlds

My second short story collection! NewCon Press is now accepting pre-orders, and some of these are shipping!

“Godzilla as a Young Man Named Mike” shortlisted for a BFA

Oh my!

Since winning the BSFA at Eastercon this year, I was happy to think that would be it but now it’s received a British Fantasy Award shortlisting as well. It’s got some stellar competition – that shortlist is fierce!

But it is just lovely to be shortlisted, and that’s not “just something people say”. Find out more about the shortlist and the wonderful authors on it via the link.

Tea or Coffee, Stars, and Gravity anthology inclusion

“To Stave Off the Void” is a short story I wrote for Air and Nothingness Press’ (AAN) anthology call. What a concept! Each story must contain tea and / or coffee, stars, and gravity (it does what it says on the tin!). I found this theme tickling all the right parts of my brain so I started writing. I have to say the experience with AAN has been great and a wonder to behold with its speed of turnaround. Hats off (but maybe not space suit helmets) to Todd Sanders for his professionalism and efficiency – I hope to work with him again sometime!

Satellite 9 reading

I’m going to be reading a short story from These Broken Little Worlds at Satellite 9 tomorrow! This is not very advanced notice, but I expect I’ll see some of you there in any case.

Sad you missed this? Shoreline of Infinity will also be putting on an Event Horizon at Cymera Festival. Speaking of which…

Cymera Festival in-person panel

I’m excited to be chairing an event for Lyndsey Croal and Sunyi Dean!
