Worldcon programming for LACon 2026

In a surprising turn of events, I find myself on the programme for the 2026 Worldcon in Los Angeles next month.

I won’t be flying in to the US for… I guess obvious reasons, if you follow my Bluesky account. But with virtual panel options today, well, I don’t see why I can’t have a little fun! After all, 2024 was bonkers.

And, taking a lesson in Not Doing As Much from 2024, I have a modest 2 items.

Thursday 27th August 2026: Workshop

Firstly, on the Thursday, I’ll be leading a workshop entitled “Outlining while ADHD”.

This is going to be fun. Or maybe a horrifying car crash. We’re going to do full audience participation and improv a story outline live, which could go completely wrong. You will have to come watch the mayhem for yourself to see if I get egg on my face.

But apart from that I have a load of ADHD writing help to share, so there’s plenty for attendees to get out of it, even if the careful plan becomes a SNAFU.

Find this writer workshop in the Worldcon programme.

Monday 31st August: Panel

There’s also a panel called “Polycrisis: Living through many challenges at once” and from what I gather, the general theme of this will be “what the hell is a writer to do when the world is on fire?” But pulling on the thinnest thread of hope is what I do, in writing and in life.

Find this panel in the Worldcon programme.

Timezone fun

They are both at the same time, 9:30pm UK time, but given L.A. is something like 8 hours behind our summertime and it’s only 1:30pm there, I’ll just have to stay awake late!

And I hope a few of my fellow UK folks will too. It’ll be fun. Come, bring snacks!
